Sunset at Trial Bay in the Arakoon State Conservation Area in northern New South Wales. The beach lies below the former Trial Bay Gaol, an internment camp for 1st World War prisoners and internees of German descent. Small plumes of smoke over the countryside point to bushfires.

Royal National Park is located just south of Sydney and is the oldest National Park in Australia. An impressive coastline is combined with beautiful bushland and deep forested valleys. The park is best suited for day tours from Sydney, but there are some campgrounds and a small YHA located inside it.

Murwillumbah is a small country town in NSW, just south of the Queensland border. The Tweed River valley surrounding it is the caldera of an ancient volcano. Mount Warning is the core of that volcano and is viewed here at sunset from the terrace of the YHA in Murwillumbah.

Cradle Mountain view

Cradle Mountain lies in the heart of the Tasmanian wilderness. The rugged mountain can be climbed without special climbing equipment in good weather. It is also the starting point for the famous 1 week "Overland Track".

The Blue Mountains separate Sydney and the coastal plains of NSW from the hinterland and the outback. A high plateau cut by deep valleys, the range ends rather suddenly west of Katoombah. Further on west, you will get a good view of the whole range.
