The Great Western Highway and its "land bridge" through the canyonland of the Blue Mountains divide them into a northern and a southern part. Katoomba is the gateway to the southern part, and Blackheath the one to the northern part.

The Grose Valley, which can be reached via Blackheath, is, if possible, even more grandiose than the Jamison Valley.
