West of the Blue Mountains area, the Jenolan Caves are a good one-day excursion with beautiful views on the way. Three cave systems can be toured, Jenolan, Wombeyan and Abercrombie.

There are always new discoveries being made in the huge cave systems, like in Summer 2007, where the jawbone of a giant wombat, a species belonging to the extinct Australian megafauna, was found in Jenolan Cave.
