Three parks form the Devonian Reef National Parks, Geikie Gorge, Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge. In the region of the latter two, the Devonian Reef is like an enormous wall, about 1 km wide, with steep cliffs. Above a view of the Reef at Tunnel Creek.

Up to the end of the 19th century, it formed the border between white farmer land in the south and aboriginal land in the north. When farmers tried to push north with their cattle, an Aboriginal hero, Jandamarra, fought them back, for a while quite successfully.
