Koala

Although we currently have no good set of photos from Kangaroo Island at the moment, it should not go unlisted here (the koala above is from Tower Hill Reserve in Victoria) . The island is the third largest of Australia, and its major feature is the fact that it has never been overrun by the major introduced species like rabbits or foxes. Some mainland species like koala have been introduced, though, and pose a certain problem. About a third of the island is protected by National Parks. Unluckily (for the traveller), the ferry to the island is quite costly (about A$ 300 for 2 persons and a car), and accomodation is limited and should be booked early. Camping is possible, though, in several locations.
