The Macdonnell Ranges are several narrow ancient mountain ridges with east-west orientation around Alice Springs. They are named after a former South Australian Governor. The larger and more famous western part is protected in the West MacDonnell National Park (MD on the map). The Larapinta and Namatjira Drives lead to the easily accesible sights of the park.
