Melbourne Chinatown, the oldest Chinatown in Australia, came into existence during the Victoria Gold Rush in the 1850s. It is located in the eastern part of the CBD, on Little Bourke Street. The Chinese are not the largest ethnic minority in Melbourne, though - with 3.7 percent, they rank behind the Italian and Greek minorities with 6.2 and 3.8 percent according to the 2001 census.
