Located on a narrow peninsula, Forster and its sister town Tuncurry are the gateway to the Great Lakes area with Wallis and Myall Lake as the two largest ones. A bit south of the town lies the Reserve; take Cape Hawke Drive to a parking lot from which a path leads up to a viewing platform. In 1998, the viewing platform was wooden and quite low; in 2002 a sign at the start of the path mentioned that the forest had overgrown the height of the platform, blocking any view. Ignoring that sign, the authors walked up and found out that the town council had set up a new steel platform, much higher than the old one, with a great view. Hope the sign is updated by now...
