Palms in the evening

The North of Queensland is only sparsely settled - the top end, the Cape York Peninsula is only inhabited by Aborigines - and difficult to access, only for experienced 4WD drivers, and only in the right season. More easily accessible are the towns of Townsville and Cairns and their regions, and a number of islands off the coast.

The best time to visit the North is the dry season, from April to October. In the wet season, roads may be blocked and boat tours be canceled because of stormy weather and rain. Because of this, the authors have to apologize that they cannot yet show you views of Cairns (C), Cooktown, Hinchinbrook Island (H) and the Cape York Peninsula - but we promise that those will be added as soon as possible!
