Rockhampton is the largest town between Brisbane and Townsville. Several historic buildings, like the post office above, and the Dreamtime Cultural Center, displaying Aboriginal culture, make it worth a visit. Rockhampton lies just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, but the landscape direct north of it is rather dreary until you reach the more tropic-like Whitsunday area.
