Simpsons Gap

Over the eons, several creeks were able to break through the MacDonnell Ranges, creating narrow gaps or chasms. Simpsons Gap is one of the most famous of these and is located about 18km west of Alice Springs. It is still a waterhole, very important spiritually to the Arrernte aborigines, and physically to the population of Black-footed Rock-wallabies which can be observed easily (from a distance) in the area. There are several walking trails in the area, and even a sealed cycle path leading to Alice Springs.
