The Sydney Opera House is by far Sydney's best known sight. Other cities have tried to copy or even top it, but they never even came near. If you stay some time in Sydney, it is well worth to try to get concert tickets. Their program contains many types of events, not only operas. Still remembering a concert with students from the Suzuki music school, aged 3 - 18!

Actually, Australia is a very music oriented country. You probably know some of Australia's famous pop musicians, like Kylie Minogue or AC/DC, not to mention my favourite, but now dissolved Midnight Oil, and the Aboriginal rock band Yothu Yindi.

But there are also a number of good classical orchestras, and some excellent classical composers - foremostly Richard Meale and Peter Sculthorpe. The musical culture of the country is very much supported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC, which has an excellent classical radio program. We some time will add one or two pages about Australian music!
