The heavily forested Tasman Peninsula is most well known for the historic convict settlement of Port Arthur, shown above. But there are many natural highlights, too, capes, natural bridges, and the strange structure of the Tesselated Pavements. The peninsula can be visited from Hobart in a day tour, but we would recommend spending more than a day on it. The eastern and southern parts of the peninsula are protected by the Tasman National Park, but a large part of the unprotected areas is covered by forests, too.
