The Tropic of Capricorn is the astronomic southern border of the tropics - in December, it is the southernmost place where the sun appears directly overhead at noon. For the traveller it is the border between summer weather in the south and rainy season in the north, or winter weather in the south and dry season in the north (which was the case for us).
