The Aboriginal hero Jandamarra hid in Tunnel Creek for several months. The police tried to starve him out, but did not know that there is a hole in the middle of Tunnel Creek, opening into the maze of the Devonian Reef. With the water of the creek and by hunting, Jandamarra was able to survive the siege. He was caught and killed later, though, through an Aboriginal tracker from a distant tribe.
