Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) is probably the best known sight of Australia. It lies in the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park and can be reached by car or by plane. The entrance fee to the area is quite hefty, as well as the hotel rooms in the Yulara Resort (Y on the map, airport A). But it is worth every cent... and camping there is still affordable.
