If you expect jagged mountains and eternal snow, like in the Alps in Europe, you will be disappointed by the Australian Alps. The highest part of the Great Dividing Range, they are more rounded and covered by ghostly Snow Gum forests. The highest mountain of Australia, Mount Kosciuszko, stands 2228m above sea level (above, about 1/3 of the image width from the left). Still, there are some ski resorts, like Mt. Hotham, and fascinating national parks.
