Central Victoria - the triangle Melbourne - Bendigo - Ballarat, and the surrounding area - historically means "Gold, Gold, Gold". These days, still gold and agriculture, but also industry. But there are attractive day trip destinations in the area, foremostly Sovereign Hill, a complete gold digger town with inhabitants in period costumes. Another destination is Hanging Rock, an enigmatic rock formation, sacred to the Aborigines.
