Large parts of the coast around the town of Lorne are covered by forests, protected in the newly formed Great Otway National Park. This park was formed from the former Otway National Park, around Cape Otway, the southernmost point of the Great Ocean Road, and a number of less well-known state parks, like the Angahook Lorne State Park area above. The coastal road here is very scenic, with beautiful views, but the back country is difficult to access.
