Although it is rather overrun by tourists, Phillip Island still is a place worth visiting. It is most famous for its population of Fairy Penguins, also called Little Penguins because they are the smallest species of penguin. At the Penguin Parade, tourists sitting on an arena-like contraption watch the little birds rising from the ocean and walking up the beach to their nests hidden in the bushes. Surprisingly, the birds have not yet been blinded by the tourists' flash lights (which are not allowed, of course - the cameras will be taken away from the visitors who don't know how to switch the flash off). Above, no penguins, but an evening view of the western tip of Philip Island with "The Nobbies".
