Tower Hill is a volcanic cone surrounded by a large crater, the result of a magma explosion only 30'000 years ago, at a time when the area was already settled by Aborigines. It is one of the best places in Victoria to see native animals and birds, and thus protected as Tower Hill State Game Reserve. In the last century it was almost completely deforested by settlers, and almost no wildlife remained, but since then a gorgeous rehabilitation effort has taken place, and today the cone is covered again by trees. A path leads to the top of the cone, from where you have a great view over the crater and the nearby ocean coastline.
