Mundaring Weir is a landmark of technical history - the dam was built in 1898 to supply the gold fields near Kalgoorlie with water. The lake formed by the dam is named after the building engineer who constructed the dam, C.Y. O'Connor. There are several walking trails in the vicinity, and a YHA hostel offers quarter to visitors of the Mundaring National Park protecting the area. If you have never tasted Lavender Cake, try the Lavender Patch near the YHA on Mundaring Road!
